TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball team is adding Omar Hijazi to their 2026-27 recruiting class. 

The versatile six-foot-six forward joins TMU after hearing from numerous programs, both in U SPORTS and NCAA Division I. 

"I chose TMU because of its great academic reputation as well as its strong basketball development program." 

Before making an impact in North America, Hijazi developed his game while playing for the Jordanian national team.

Over seven contests during the 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship, Hijazi averaged a team-leading 16.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks, while shooting 68.3 per cent from the field. 

His performance against Korea (25 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in 37 minutes) propelled Jordan to a narrow 62-59 victory. 

"I'm versatile and I impact winning on both ends of the floor," said Hijazi. 

His international resume includes helping the Jordanian national team qualify for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. Against China, Hijazi recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. 

Hijazi is a product of the North Pole Hoops' International Prep Placement (IPP) program. The international pipeline to Canada led Hijazi to Ridley College, where he helped the program win an NPA Championship. 

Winning seems to follow Hijazi wherever he goes, which bodes well for a Bold program looking to defend their Wilson Cup championship.
