TMU Bold Fan Conduct Expectations

Toronto Metropolitan University and the TMU Bold are committed to creating a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environment for all spectators, staff and athletes in attendance at all our varsity games and events. TMU welcomes guests into our facilities at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, Downsview Park, and Kerr Hall. To ensure an enjoyable game day experience for all, we are committed to creating an environment where each individual’s conduct remains appropriate and respectful. This policy aligns with the Fan Conduct expectations outlined by U SPORTS and Ontario University Athletics (OUA).
We want those in the audience to enjoy the games in a responsible fashion. Fans are encouraged to cheer for their favourite team during competition and in doing so, must ensure that their conduct fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Fan Behaviour        Â

Guests are responsible for their own conduct within our facilities.

Spectators may not enter the playing surface or resource areas at any time.

Spectators are required to comply with all facility policies and follow the instructions of event staff.

Fans are encouraged to display positive sportspersonship and act as a positive role model for those around them.

Fans will cheer for their team in an encouraging and positive manner.

Profanity and/or uttering remarks or gestures that are deemed taunting, threatening, vulgar, abusive, racist, xenophobic, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or demeaning, directed towards coaches, student-athletes, fans, staff, officials, and/or school representatives is STRICTLY prohibited. This behavior is grounds for immediate removal from the site of competition.

Guests must not wear clothing with obscene, offensive or indecent language.

Guests who appear intoxicated or impaired due to alcohol or drug use may be denied entry and/or may be escorted from the venue.
Prohibited Behaviour Includes         Â

Actions or behaviours that endanger the safety of athletes, staff, spectators or officials.

Threatening behaviour and/or behavior that is perceived to be threatening.

Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team fans, officials, opponents or other spectators.

Use of foul and/or abusive language, derogatory remarks and/or obscene gestures, as outlined above.

Interference with the progress of the game, including unauthorized persons and/or throwing objects on the field of play.

Intentionally sitting or standing in areas that may obstruct the passage and/or view of other fans.

Providing alcohol to a minor or are a minor in possession of alcohol.Â

Smoking or vaping.

Failing to follow instructions of venue and TMU staff.
Prohibited Items
Items that can be used as projectiles, items that interfere with the comfort of other guests, or items deemed as inappropriate/hazardous by staff are prohibited. This list is subject to change, and includes but is not limited to:

Outside Alcohol

Animals – exception granted for Service Animals

Confetti, streamers, glitter, or balloons

Drones

Fireworks

Illegal drugs

Laser pointers

Weapons or replica weapons
Banners, Posters & Signs

All fans are welcomed and encouraged to show their spirit.

Signs must not include any derogatory or insulting language.

Signs must be respectful of the opposing team and their athletes.

Guests with signs/banners/posters that are deemed offensive by TMU staff will be asked to dispose of them upon entry, or during the game.
Event patrons are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their guests. Those who do not abide by the policies in place or those who violate policies on multiple occasions will be subject to ejection without refund and loss of ticket privileges for future games and events. Students involved in such activities may be subjected to disciplinary action via the Student Code of Non-Academic Conduct.
For events taking place on TMU campus or at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, fans are encouraged to report emergencies or issues that require immediate intervention (i.e. violence, harassment, vandalism) to the nearest event staff member or contact TMU Security at (416) 979-5040. All incidents will be dealt with promptly in order to support an environment where spectators can enjoy the event free from the above behaviour.
Should you be unable to access a nearby staff member, please contact municipal emergency services at 911.Â
At Downsview Park, fans are encouraged to report incidents to the closest event staff or security member. In the case of an emergency, please call 911.
For matters that are not time-sensitive, and should an individual prefer to report the incident anonymously, they are encouraged to do so through ourÂ
