Toronto Metropolitan University has transformed Maple Leaf Gardens, one of Canada’s most iconic landmarks, into the Mattamy Athletic Centre. A National Historic Site of Canada, the Mattamy Athletic Centre is an impressively advanced athletic facility that preserves the treasures of its past. The facility is a winning combination of cherished history and cutting edge innovation.

The Mattamy Athletic Centre is home to the TMU Bold men's and women's hockey teams. The facility features a 2,600 seat NHL sized arena on the third floor underneath the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens domed ceiling. The second level of Mattamy Athletic Centre contains a multi-purpose 1,000 seat gymnasium that is home to the Bold basketball and volleyball teams. All of the Bold varsity teams have state-of-the-art spacious team rooms located in the Mattamy Athletic Centre. The facility also contains a fitness centre and high performance training area as well as a fourth level lounge overlooking the arena and a third level lounge overlooking the gymnasium. It also includes several multipurpose meeting rooms, a second level cafe and spacious fourth level concourse space. The building also houses a Loblaws store on the ground floor.

The largest arena in the country when it was built in the heart of downtown Toronto, Maple Leaf Gardens opened in 1931. In addition to being home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Gardens also played host to numerous world-class events including the 1972 Summit Series, a Muhammad Ali vs. George Chuvalo boxing match, and performances by the Beatles and the King of rock ‘n’ roll, Elvis Presley. Recently named a National Historic Site of Canada, the Gardens is legendary.

The state-of-the-art Mattamy Athletic Centre is destined to create a legacy for a new generation of Toronto Metropolitan University students and the local community.
