TORONTO—The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball team is welcoming one of U SPORTS' premier defensive players, 6'8" forward Ares Culley-Bremner, to the program for the upcoming 2026-27 season. 

A Hamilton, Ont., native, Culley-Bremner spent the last four seasons with the McMaster Marauders, establishing himself as a defensive force. In the 2025-26 season, he led U SPORTS with a total of 78 blocks—the second-highest single-season total in U SPORTS history. He averaged 3.7 blocks per game, also the second-highest single-season average in league history.

Before his university career, Culley-Bremner played seven seasons with the Ancaster Blitz. He then spent his senior season with Lincoln Prep, a high-performance basketball academy that competes in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA). 

Following high school, he made an immediate impact at the university level, earning OUA All-Rookie Team honours in 2021-22. Culley-Bremner was also named McMaster team MVP after his standout 2025-26 season. 

Known for his selfless approach to the game, Culley-Bremner describes himself as a player willing to sacrifice where he can for his team to win. 

Off the court, Culley-Bremner will pursue his Masters of Biomedical Engineering at TMU. A U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian in 2024-25, he feels the university is the ideal place to spend his final season of OUA eligibility and continue his studies. 

"It seems like a positive winning environment that I'd like to be a part of for my final year in the OUA," said Culley-Bremner. 

Culley-Bremner marks the sixth addition to the Bold this off-season, as TMU continues to strengthen their roster, looking to defend their OUA championship title in the 2026-27 season.
