Jeremie Kayeye Named Team Canada U23 3x3 Men's Team Head Coach

TORONTO—On June 27, 2026, the Canada Basketball U23 3x3 men's national team began competing at the FIBA Nations League, led by Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold lead assistant coach Jeremie Kayeye

Since joining the TMU Bold Men's Basketball program as lead assistant coach in July 2020, Kayeye and Head Coach David DeAveiro have led the team to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs every season, culminating in winning the OUA Wilson Cup in February.

On June 25, 2026, he was named Head Coach of Canada Basketball's 3x3 squad.

"It's an honour and a responsibility," said Kayeye. "You're representing more than yourself—you're setting a standard for how we prepare, compete, and carry ourselves. My role is to create clarity and confidence so our group can perform at a high level."

Kayeye notably supported the TMU Bold men's basketball team throughout the 2021-22 season. As they worked through injuries, a rebuilt roster and COVID-related challenges, Kayeye helped the team make internal adjustments and rebuild their chemistry.

All six athletes are set to make their 3x3 national team debut, bringing a blend of size and scoring ability to the roster. While the opportunity to guide young athletes on a national stage will forever be an important moment in his career, Kayeye is also looking forward to being the mentor they need off the court.

"It goes beyond basketball," noted Kayeye. "We're building habits, mindset, and character. If we're doing it right, they leave as better players and more prepared people."

The FIBA U23 3x3 Nations League is held from June 27 to July 3. Canada will play in the Americas conference, which features six three-game tournaments in seven days, including daily pool play and a final.

The best-ranked team in the standings after the sixth day will be declared the conference champions and qualify for the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup 2026, taking place September 15-19 in Wuhan, China.

This tournament will be the first time Kayeye coaches on an international stage, allowing him to grow basketball in Canada, while also representing TMU.

"It's something we take pride in," said Kayeye. "Contributing to Canada Basketball means the work we do daily has a bigger impact—helping raise the standard and support the next generation of Bold student-athletes."
