Ailish Forfar, former captain of the Ryerson Rams and current member the Markham Thunder of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) has been selected to represent Canada at the 2019 FISU Winter Universiade, March 2-12, in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
Forfar played two seasons for the Rams, earning the captaincy in 2017 to close out her five-year university hockey career. An OUA First-Team All-Star and a U SPORTS Second-Team All-Canadian in her final season, Forfar broke the program record for the most points and goals in a single season after tallying 11 goals and 23 points in 21 games. She was awarded the prestigious OUA and U SPORTS Marion Hilliard Award for Academic and Community Excellence in 2018, as well as Ryerson's G. L. Dobson Trophy for Contributions to Athletics, Campus & Community Life.
A total of six teams will compete in the women's tournament. Canada begins its title quest against China at on Mar. 1 at 4 a.m. ET / 1 a.m. PT (4 p.m. local time), with additional games scheduled against Japan, China, Switzerland, Russia and the U.S.
