TORONTO—The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team is happy to welcome two-way defender Ava Clavelle to its 2026-27 recruiting class. 

Known as a versatile blueliner who can block shots while generating offence, Clavelle embraces physical play on the ice.

"Ava is a great addition to our team. She will bring a strong hockey IQ, she's very versatile, and she is capable of playing in a lot of different scenarios," said Bold Head Coach Lisa Haley. "Her work ethic on the ice is exceptional, and her stated desire to improve are important attributes that will enhance our team culture and level of compete."

Clavelle, originally from Airdrie, Alta. has spent the last three years developing her skills with the Okanagan Hockey Academy of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) in Penticton, BC. The premier sports school is designed to help student-athletes balance daily intense hockey training with academics. She served as the assistant captain in her senior 2025-26 season.

Clavelle has two provincial championships on her resume, winning in both women's U13 and U15 AA. She represented Alberta at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC) in both 2024 and 2025, earning a silver medal with Team Alberta in 2024.

She joins the Bold after previously playing alongside goaltender Katie Frost at Team West Canada camps. Clavelle chose TMU because it offers her the opportunity to continue competing at a high level while earning a strong education in the process. 

Excited to study Professional Communications in the city, Clavelle believes that TMU's location offers greater room for growth.

"TMU's location in Toronto provides access to opportunities, resources, and experiences that can help prepare me for my future both on and off the ice," said Clavelle. "The Coaching staff, Lisa and Celine made it a very easy choice by helping me through the whole process and I'm very excited to be a part of the team and play for the Bold for the next four!"

Clavelle marks the fourth commitment to a promising 2026-27 Bold recruiting class.
