The playoffs didn't get off to the start that Ryerson was hoping for as they fell in game one of their first round matchup 3-2 to the Queen's Gaels.

Queen's opened the scoring in the first period, they won a face-off in the Rams end, controlled the play and won a puck battle in the corner and centered the puck. Goalie Fanny Vigeant made the first save but was unable to grab the rebound and just like that Queen's was ahead. 

For most of the season head coach Lisa Haley has used her goalies in games where she saw the best match up, so it was no surprise to see Vigeant get the start in this game. She started both games this season that the Rams played against the Gaels and she went 1-1 giving up two goals a game in the meetings. 

Queen's doubled their lead early in the second period on a slapshot from that point that found it's way through Vigeant, leaving Ryerson to dig deep and look for a comeback.  

This Ryerson team is no stranger to comebacks and during their 2018-19 campaign they have shown the ability to overcome a two goal deficit. 

Ryerson began to do that with eight minutes left in the second period, when Avery Horlock cut the Queen's lead in half when she let a wrist shot fly from above the circle and found the back of the net. 

Ryerson's quick strike offence was on display in this part of the game and just 37 seconds later Kryshanda Green snapped one past the Gaels goalie and Ryerson had tied things up. 

Within the blink of an eye Ryerson had erased the Queen's lead and third period started with both teams at two goals. 

The third period saw both teams get a fair amount of chances but as the final minutes ticked away the game looked like it was headed for overtime. 

But Queen's had other plans and they spoiled the Rams comeback attempt by scoring the game winning goal with just 50 seconds left in the game. 

In a short series like this, Ryerson now faces a must win game Saturday night when they host the Gaels at 7:15 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
