Rams prepare for pair of crosstown matchups

TORONTO - The Rams men's basketball team, on a five-game winning streak, will look to keep the victories coming this Wednesday when they face the Toronto Varsity Blues on home court.

While the Rams currently sit tied for third in the division with five wins and three losses, the Blues stand in last place with an 0-5 record and are hungry for their first win of the season. The team's last loss against Toronto dates back to November of 2019.

In order to secure another win against the Blues and make a run for a playoff spot, the Rams will need to identify the persistent weak spots in their ever-progressing playing style.

Learning to be "selfless with the ball" was one of the team's biggest issues back in the fall, when they first began training together. Today, fluid ball movement in passes across the court and trust in one another is one of the team's most advantageous traits.

The roster, equipped with a plethora of athletically inclined players who share a great aim for the basket, is offensively strong.

But while the Rams have improved immensely in denying shots and snagging rebounds, they still rank 12th in the league in defence, allowing 83.9 points against per game.

Staying alert on defence will present the biggest challenge for the Rams this week against Toronto who, despite their winless record, maintain a fifth place defensive ranking in the league.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and you can tune in live at OUA.tv or support the team at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Tickets are available online and health and safety protocols will be in place. The teams will tipoff again on Saturday at Toronto's Goldring Centre which will be closed to spectators.
