Playoffs in sight for Rams with success over Marauders

TORONTO - Just about one month after their season began, the Rams women's soccer team has come to their last weekend of regular season play.

The McMaster Marauders come to Downsview on Thursday evening before the Rams close their season in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.

McMaster sits second in the OUA Central, having only lost two games. Both of their defeats came last week against the surging Nipissing Lakers. The Rams picked up two wins when they needed it the most over the weekend, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

The top two teams in the OUA Central will be playoff bound while a pair of wildcard teams will round out the postseason. Wildcard teams will be determined by the number of points throughout the whole OUA. Should McMaster lose and the Varsity Blues fall against the Lakers this week, the Rams could leapfrog into the second place playoff spot.

Rams fans could also keep an eye on the Queen's Gaels, York Lions, and the tight OUA West division for wildcard matchups.

However, the Rams themselves will try and keep their eyes on the pitch as opposed to the OUA standings. While McMaster is a dangerous team, the Rams have not faced them since 2012. With six crucial points on the line, the Rams hope to use that clean slate to their advantage.

Set pieces could be a difference-maker in the McMaster matchup, as the Marauders average four fouls per game. Many Rams fans can recall Christiana Daniel's header goal off of a free kick in their earlier win over Toronto. Daniel's goal is one of eight goals the Rams have scored so far as they now rely on their offence to contribute in this week's vital series.

Kick off on Thursday is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Downsview with health and safety measures in place for spectators. A pre-game ceremony will take place to honour the graduating student-athletes. On Sunday, kick off is at 1:00 p.m. in Hamilton.
