NIPISSING, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the Nipissing Lakers as they look to take valuable lessons from the match into the upcoming playoffs.
Coming off a win against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Oct. 17, TMU travelled to Nipissing hoping to carry its winning momentum into another match.
The Lakers opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a free-kick goal. Elisa Paolucci dove to her right to make the save, but the shot found the left side of the net, giving Nipissing the early advantage.
Defensively, Reilly Flesher stood out for the Bold, disrupting the Lakers' attack by closing down passing lanes and applying pressure to limit opportunities.
TMU continued to search for a response, creating more opportunities in the attacking third as the match progressed. In the 61st minute, Vanessa Pianta sent a ball down the line to Taylor Fazzari, who delivered a cross into the box for Becca Bartosh. Bartosh got a shot away, but the Nipissing goalkeeper made the save to keep the Bold off the scoresheet. Natalie Moynihan also tested the Lakers with a free-kick shot on goal as the Bold continued searching for a breakthrough.
Despite generating more attempts on goal as the match progressed, TMU was unable to convert its chances, and Nipissing secured the 3-0 victory.
The Bold will now turn their focus to the playoffs, with the first round set to begin Wednesday, Oct. 21. Game time is still to be determined, and the match can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
