Rams hope to bounce back in Sault Ste. Marie

TORONTO - The Rams women's soccer team will strive to return to form this week as they hit the road to take on the faltering Algoma Thunderbirds.

After holding the undefeated Nipissing Lakers to just one goal in a road loss last Friday, the Rams were dealt a 4-0 defeat on home pitch this past weekend. Frustration was palpable for the squad as plenty of chances went awry in the first half. Despite their opportunities to tie the game at 1, the Rams conceded 3 goals in the second half before the final whistle.

An Algoma doubleheader could be the perfect comeback recipe for the Rams. The Thunderbirds have faced some of the division's toughest opponents so far this season. As a result, they have yet to pick up a win in five games. Their only goal was scored back in September against McMaster, while they've conceded eighteen total tallies.

However, it would be presumptuous for the Rams to count Algoma out. Thunderbirds goalkeeper Megan Chandler ranks third in the OUA in saves, with a total of 36 in just four games. Elisa Lapadula is not far behind, ranking fifth in the league with 27 saves.

Should this week's matchups become defensive battles, the Rams will look towards their mobile defenders to gain an advantage. As usual, the energy from defenders Keira Kent, Kaleigh McKye, and Emily Porteous was on display last weekend. Continued poised play in the midfield from Ivymae Perez could also be the difference in a Rams victory.

The Rams kick off at 12 PM on both Saturday and Sunday against Algoma. With just six games remaining on the Rams' regular season schedule, their trip to Sault Ste. Marie for their first ever meeting with Algoma could prove to be extremely pivotal.
