TORONTO - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced Thursday the men's hockey major award winners and all-stars and a trio of Rams landed among the honourees.
Third year defenceman
Gregory DiTomaso (Etobicoke, Ont.) was named the OUA West division's top defenceman and to the First-Team of all-stars. The offensively gifted defencemen led all OUA blueliners with 26 points this season, while his 20 assists ranked 13th among all skaters. In his own zone, DiTomaso became a reliable shut down defender with his shot blocking and ability to shut down the opposition's top players. DiTomaso was also named a First-Team all-star for his performance this season. These are the first awards for DiTomaso since being named to the OUA's all-rookie team in 2017-18.
Joining DiTomaso on the First-Team of all-stars was third year forward
Mathew Santos (Toronto). One of the most feared goal scorers in the league, Santos racked up 36 points this season to rank tied for fifth in the conference. Santos netted 15 goals, five of them coming on the power play, while his four game-winners topped the OUA. This was Santos's first league award.
After securing the title of OUA Player of the Year a season ago,
Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) landed on the Second-Team of all-stars this year. Mistele matched his teammate Santos's point total, posting 36 points to sit tied for fifth in the OUA. His 22 assists was also top-10 worthy, ranking eighth in the conference. A fourth year senior, Mistele became Ryerson's all-time leading scorer thanks to his productive final season.
