Bold coaching alum Kori Cheverie named head coach of Canadian women’s hockey team

TORONTO—Former Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey lead assistant coach Kori Cheverie has been named head coach of the Canadian women's hockey team for the 2026-27 season.

Cheverie will make her debut as head coach at the Women's World Championship in Esbjerg, Denmark, running Nov. 6-16.

Cheverie joined the Bold men's hockey coaching staff as a full-time assistant in August of 2016, becoming the first woman to hold a full-time coaching position in U SPORTS men's hockey. On Nov. 1, 2019, she made history again, becoming the first woman to individually coach a men's U SPORTS hockey team to a win.

Before coaching, Cheverie played U SPORTS hockey at Saint Mary's University, where she was a three-time AUS first-team all-star, team captain, Academic All-Canadian and two-time female athlete of the year.

She went on to play six seasons with the Toronto Furies of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL).

Cheverie is currently the head coach of the PWHL's Montréal Victoire, leading the team to its first Walter Cup title last season. She was also an assistant coach with Canada's national women's team that secured silver at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.

Canada will hold its selection camp from Oct. 8-14 before facing reigning Olympic champions the United States in a pre-tournament game in Windsor on Oct. 28.
