TORONTO — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team has signed Sophie Nicholson, a forward from North Vancouver, B.C., as part of its 2026-27 recruiting class.
"Sophie is a great addition to our team," said head coach Carly Clarke. "We are excited to add a dynamic and versatile player like her to our front court. Coming from one of the top BC programs, she has demonstrated a work ethic and desire to improve that fits perfectly with our team and culture."
Nicholson joins TMU following a standout multi-sport career at Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver. On the basketball court, she earned First-Team All-Star honours at the BC Provincials in 2023 and followed it up with a Second-Team All-Star selection in 2025. In 2024, she was named Argyle's Athlete of the Year and Basketball MVP, recognizing her leadership and impact on the program.
A strong defensive presence, Nicholson was named Defensive Player of the Tournament at the 2026 Heritage Woods Classic. She also received the 2025 Big Ticket Scholarship and earned the District of North Vancouver Civic Youth Recognition Award in 2021, highlighting both her athletic and community contributions.
In addition to basketball, Nicholson excelled in volleyball, earning Argyle Secondary's Volleyball MVP honours in both 2023 and 2024. Her multi-sport background has helped shape her athleticism, court awareness, and adaptability.
Nicholson competed with VK Basketball Club, where she gained valuable experience travelling across the United States and competing against high-level competition, further developing her game.
Describing herself as a positive and supportive teammate, Nicholson brings a calm and composed presence to the court. She takes pride in her work ethic, consistency, and ability to stay level-headed under pressure while contributing to her team in meaningful ways.
"I chose TMU because it was the best fit for me as both a student and an athlete," Nicholson said. "Coach Carly is widely recognized as one of the top coaches in the country, and the team and program she has built comes highly recommended. When I had the opportunity to meet the team and coaching staff, it just felt right."
Nicholson will study Graphic Communications Management at TMU. She joins a strong 2026-27 recruiting class as the Bold continue to build for the future.
