TORONTO - The Rams will be headed on the road for the first time in this regular season. Starting the season with their first two games on Mattamy Home Ice, the squad has a 1-1 record.
On Wednesday, the Rams head up to Guelph in a rematch of their home opener. Last Thursday the Gryphons got the upper hand early, perhaps since their regular season started a week before the Rams.Â
"I thought as the game went on we did start to compete harder and I thought we took some positive strides there in the third period. For us, all we can do is build off that," remarked head coach
Johnny Duco after their fall to Guelph.Â
The Rams definitely built off their momentum in their next home game against Toronto, taking the crosstown matchup 6-3. The usual suspects of
Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) and
Mathew Santos (Toronto) came out firing to help cement their first win. Ryerson's offence looks sound as a whole, with seven skaters having totals of two points or more in just six periods of hockey.Â
The Gryphons boast a 2-1-0 record, and puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ryerson will visit two inner-city squads, York and Toronto, later on this week. They take on the York Lions on Friday, October 18th and the Varsity Blues the next day. Both games are set for 7:00 p.m.
The only question entering this week's road matches is goaltending. In the home opener,
Troy Timpano (Pickering, Ont.) got the start, making 34 stops in a 5-2 loss. Against Toronto,
Garrett Forrest (Ashburn, Va.) got the nod in net and secured the 26-save victory. Coach Duco commented on the surplus of goaltending talent, saying, "Whether it's Forrest, Timpano, or Dupuis, I think they all give us a chance to win. It's going to be interesting to see them battle it out here."
When asked if he had plans to name one true starting goalie, Duco said, "The guy who plays the best will play the most."
Regardless of the specific lineup, the Rams will continue to be a dangerous squad. They face an early season challenge with their upcoming five-game road trip, kicking off this week. Â
