TORONTO – The TMU Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the appointment of Vincent Sandir as the new Head Coach of the TMU Bold wrestling team.
A proud TMU alumnus, he brings a dynamic blend of competitive experience, proven leadership, and a deep commitment to athlete development.
Currently serving as Coach, Co-Owner, and Director of Central Toronto Wrestling Club, he has built one of the few consistent, year-round wrestling training environments in Toronto. In that role, he leads comprehensive programming for youth, high school, and adult athletes, designing training systems that emphasize technical growth, discipline, and competition readiness. His work has supported athletes across all stages of development, from beginners to provincial and national competitors.
"As an alumni of TMU, I'm really grateful and excited for the opportunity to give back to the program. Wrestling has given me a lot over the years, and I'm looking forward to being part of something bigger than myself and helping continue to grow the sport within the university. More than anything, I'm excited to work with the athletes and be part of building something people are proud of."
In addition to his club leadership, he has been the Head Coach of the wrestling program at Neil McNeil High School, where he has guided student-athletes through league, city, and OFSAA competition while implementing strong technical foundations and advanced systems. He also served as an Assistant Wrestling Coach with the University of Toronto Varsity Blues beginning in 2024.
As a competitor, he is a multi-time provincial medalist and a former varsity athlete at Toronto Metropolitan University, bringing firsthand experience of high-performance sport to his coaching philosophy.
He holds a Bachelor of Geographic Analysis with a Minor in Sociology from Toronto Metropolitan University.
Sandir credits Jay Jordon, founder of Central Toronto Wrestling, as one of his biggest influences. "Being around the culture he built taught me a lot about hard work, accountability, and creating an environment where people enjoy coming in and getting better together. A lot of the values I carry as a coach today come from those experiences."
Dillon Williams and Braxton Stone-Papadopoulos join Sandir's staff as assistant coaches.
TMU Varsity and Competitive Clubs Coordinator
Ryan Danziger shared his enthusiasm about the program's new direction:
"Coach Sandir's experience, thoughtfulness, and athlete-first approach make him an excellent fit for our program. The talent and technical expertise that Coach Williams and Coach Papadopoulos bring as well will complement him tremendously and help position our team for continued success in the years ahead."
Danziger also announced that the Bold Wrestling Team will officially call the Central Toronto Wrestling Club their home and main training facility.
"Its accessibility from campus will be a major asset to the program's growth and student-athlete experience," said Danziger. "We're excited to see where Coach Sandir, Coach Williams, and Coach Papadopoulos take the Bold Wrestling Team."
