GUELPH, Ont. - Second-year wrestler
Dechlan Papadopoulos earned his second medal in as many years at the U SPORTS wrestling championship, bringing home the silver medal in the 65kg weight class.
Papadopoulos won each of his three pool play matches against athletes from Calgary, Alberta, and Concordia to reach the gold medal bout.
In the final, a rematch of the OUA final against Nicolae Gandrabura from Brock, Papadopoulos took an early lead but then trailed by two in the late stages. The Bold athlete was able to tie the score, but a turn in the final seconds from Gandrabura gave him the late victory.
In other action,
Arjun Cheema represented the Bold in the 100kg weight class after earning a wild card entry into the national tournament. Cheema finished in fifth place, posting a 1-2 record in pool play before defeating Layne Motley from Saskatchewan 10-0 in the fifth place match.
Despite having just two athletes at the national championship, TMU accumulated 12 points to rank 12th out of 17 competing schools.
