BURLINGTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the men's hockey award winners and all-stars on Thursday with five different TMU players earning recognition, headlined by True Sport Award winner,
Chris Playfair.
Captain of the Bold, Playfair earned the True Sport Award after a productive campaign on the ice while epitomizing sportsmanship throughout the season. The third-year forward posted a career year with 19 points through 22 regular season games and tallied four power play markers and two game-winning goals. A physical player who gets involved in the forecheck, Playfair recorded just eight penalty minutes all season, while his leadership helped keep the Bold fairly disciplined as a whole.
Third-year forward
Kyle Bollers was named a First-Team All-Star for the third straight season after another impressive offensive showing this year. Bollers' 42 points ranked third among all OUA players this season with his 18 goals and 24 assists each ranking second in the conference. His goals were also timely, registering at least one power play, shorthanded, and game-winning goal this year.
Anchoring the Bold on the defensive end, goaltender
Kai Edmonds and defenceman
Aaron Hyman were both named Second-Team All-Stars. Edmonds ranked among the league leaders in several statistical categories, with his 14 wins ranking fourth best while his 2.35 goals against average ranked fifth. Hyman earned his first conference recognition after a season with big offensive contributions. Hyman recorded a career-best 19 points from the blue line while continuing to be a physical presence in his own zone.
First-year phenom
Daniil Grigorev rounds out the Bold winners, being named to the All-Rookie Team after a strong start to his OUA career. Grigorev posted 21 points in 27 games and his 12 goals ranked second among all rookies in the conference. He was able to light the lamp with regularity and in important situations, tallying a pair of power play goals and two game-winning goals.
