SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The TMU Bold wrestling team made their mark at this year's OUA championship this weekend, with second-year
Dechlan Papadopoulos bringing home a silver medal.
Papadopoulos went undefeated through pool play before falling 11-3 in the final bout of the 65kg weight class. This is the second year Papadopoulos has medaled, besting his bronze medal from a year ago.
In the 100kg division,
Arjun Cheema fought for a medal but came up short in the bronze medal bout, finishing in fourth place.
Abishek Kunchithapathan finished in sixth place in the 68kg division, while
Victor Zhang place seventh in the 90kg division.
Fahad Khan and
Rico Aquino each finished eighth in their respective weight categories.
Akash Rudran rounded out the Bold competitors in the 61kg division, but he did not advance to the placement stage.
Overall, the Bold accumulated 20 points and finished ninth in the team standings.
Papadopoulos will now represent TMU at the U SPORTS national championship for a second consecutive season, coming up on March 2.
