TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team is pleased to announce Alex Pino as the second member of their recruiting class ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Hailing from Thornton, Ont., Pino joins the Bold after playing this past season with Bill Crothers in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA). She previously played two years at Lo-Ellen Park Prep, also in the OSBA, and has spent two years in the summer Kia Nurse Elite AAU program.
A multi-sport athlete, Pino has won a provincial championship playing soccer, earned MVP status on her high school cross country team, qualified for the Ontario high school championship as a member of the ski team, and holds a black belt in karate.
"Alex's demonstration of being a great teammate and hard worker make her a perfect addition to the Bold," said head coach,
Carly Clarke. "She will bring versatility and athleticism to our line up, which meshes well with our team and system."
The newest member of the Bold will enroll in the Social Work program at TMU this fall.
"I chose TMU because the Bachelor of Social Work program has an excellent reputation and TMU also offers a reputable Masters of Social Work program which I am interested in pursuing," said Pino. "[Also], the positive team culture was evident when I watched the team play...and the leadership from the coaching staff really impressed me. When I went on my formal visit, it solidified my decision. I saw a positive family culture which I could see myself being a part of in the years to come."
The guard will kick off their blue and gold career later this fall and stands as the second addition to the Bold's roster.
