TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team is excited to announce Catrina Garvey as the first member of their recruiting class ahead of the 2023-24 season.
The Ottawa, Ont. native joins the blue and gold with an impressive basketball resume, including a recent stint at the 2023 BioSteel All-Canadian game where she played among the top high school players in the country.
Garvey comes to the Bold after four seasons with the Capital Courts Academy program where she won an Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) championship in 2022, an achievement she notes as the highlight of her athletic career. The shooting guard also represented Team Ontario at last year's Canada Summer Games, bringing home a bronze medal. Prior to her time with Capital Courts, Garvey played two years with Ottawa Elite in the JUEL league where she was selected to the All-Star game in 2019.
The newest member of the Bold will enter the Psychology program at TMU after three consecutive years of earning honour roll status.
"I chose TMU to study psychology and learn about human behaviour and mental processes at a university and in an environment that supports students in a holistic manner, and to continue to learn, develop, and play the game that I love with the guidance of two amazing coaches in Carly and Shae," said Garvey.
"Catrina has proven herself as one of the top guards in the country, and we believe she is a perfect fit for our program," said Bold head coach,
Carly Clarke. "She has a passion, competitiveness, and work ethic that matches our champions mindset, and her desire to learn and get better will continue to help our program to grow."
Garvey adds that she's a very competitive person and works extremely hard both on and off the court to ensure that her body and mind are ready for game time.
The guard will kick off their blue and gold career later this fall and stands as the first addition to the Bold's roster.
