Bold softball qualify for OUS Championship weekend after split with Varsity Blues

TMU Loses Despite Out Hitting Varsity Blues


The TMU Bold fell 2-1 to the Toronto Varsity Blues in Friday's game one, despite out-hitting them six to two.

TMU was right in it until the Varsity Blues grounded out in the fifth inning to score a run.

The Bold got on the board in the second inning after Maddie Scime singled, scoring one run.

Toronto scored after tagging up, which helped the Varsity Blues tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.

Meghan Petruk began the game for TMU Bold. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out none and walking two. 

Scime led TMU with one run batted in. She went 1-for-3 in the game. 

The Bold turned two double plays in the game.

Kiyah Hurry's Big Game Propels Bold Past Varsity Blues


Kiyah Hurry drove in four runs on three hits to lead the TMU Bold past the Toronto Varsity Blues 10-0 in Friday's game two. Hurry doubled in the fourth scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and doubled in the third scoring one.

TMU jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Jayden Lawson doubled, scoring two runs, Hurry singled, scoring one run, Madeline Gillis hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Kaitlyn Leboutillier singled, scoring one run.

The Bold added one run in the third after Hurry doubled after a six-pitch at-bat.

Hurry stepped in the circle first for TMU. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking three. 

Lawson collected two hits for the Bold in two at bats.

The split marked the end of the regular season for the Bold, but the team will head to the Ontario University Softball (OUS) championship weekend after finishing fourth in the OUS East division. Championship weekend will be hosted by the Waterloo Warriors in Paris/Brant from October 21-22.
