TORONTO — The Rams men's hockey team is on a roll. After crushing the York Lions on February 10 at home and then completing a stunning comeback victory on the road against the Lions on February 12, the team is in the best position they've been in all year; they're healthy, energized, and ready for the stretch that lies ahead.Â
On February 24, the Rams will head uptown to Toronto's Varsity Arena, where they'll face off against the lowly Varsity Blues. The next day, the Blues will return to the Mattamy Athletic Centre for the last regular season meeting between the two squads. The team feels ready, with their dependability slated to be their biggest strength heading into their final games.Â
"The strength in our group is [that] lines one through four can play," head coach Johnny Duco said earlier this month, addressing their consistency.
Historically speaking, the Rams have won six of the last 10 meetings against their crosstown rivals.
In particular, Rams fans should look out for Matt Nosella, who's returning from an injury that kept him out of the team's previous two games. Opposing teams will also have to keep a close eye on the young blueline tandem of Joe Rupoli and Aaron Hyman, both of whom stepped up in Nosella's absence to form a discretely solid third pairing. Overall, the team's brass believes that the group is tightly knit and shares a common goal: winning a championship.Â
"Our group has terrific chemistry," Duco added. "It's a really dialed in group and you can tell they don't want to let each other down."Â
All told, the team currently sits in first place of the OUA West division with their impressive 7-2-0 record and is ranked No. 10 in the latest U SPORTS rankings.
Following their series with the Varsity Blues, the Rams will welcome the Lakehead Thunderwolves to town on March 4 and 5 before finishing up their regular season against York on March 9 and 12.Â
