Division rival Lions visit the Rams this weekend

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team is set to face the York Lions in their only match of the weekend.

The Rams are currently placed third in the OUA East standings with just two games left in the regular season. They sit two points behind the Queen's Gaels who have a game in hand and sit four points above the Nipissing Lakers, so a third-place finish in the division looks to be their likely placement.

To keep their hopes alive for a second-place finish, they'll need a victory over the 6-9 York Lions, who are coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over the 8-8 Lakers.

The Lions are a veteran team that attacks heavily from the outsides. Leaders in kills for the Lions are senior Andrew Shotbolt and junior Andrew Tauhid, who have a combined 224 kills this season.
York also leads the OUA in total service aces and aces per set, which could give the Rams trouble if they get hot from the baseline for long streaks.

As the Lions sit in the fifth OUA East spot behind the Nipissing Lakers by four points but with a game in hand, they will certainly be trying to make a final playoff push as they have three games left to play this season.

The Rams, who will be looking to solidify York's playoff exclusion, have taken a win away from the Lions in their last six matchups, but the Lions have been able to grab at least a set from them in all of those matches.

Ryerson has shown their depth these last few weeks, as young middle-blockers Alex King (Ottawa, Ont.) and Omari Young (Toronto) have each hit their career highs in kills. Come game day on Saturday, Rams head coach Matt Harris will likely be confident with the selection of middles on his roster.

Both teams will be coming off wins going into this match, and both will still have much to play for this late in the season.

This matchup will take place on Coca-Cola Court at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The match will also be available on OUA.tv.
