GUELPH, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's volleyball team lost 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 26-24, 32-30) to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night.
TMU lost the first set 25-16 but came back to win the second 25-23. The third and fourth sets extended past 25 points, with Guelph taking the third 26-24 and the fourth 32-30. The Bold had two key stretches fueled by Day Westell on serve, winning five consecutive points in the third set and again in the fourth, with Westell serving four points in each run.
William Gimbert led TMU with 22 kills, Riley Donovan added 17 and Westell had seven. Donovan, Westell and Aidan Suttie each recorded an ace. Suttie led the team with four blocks at the net, while Westell and Gavin Elzinga added one each.
Declan Dunn had 25 assists, and Gabriel Gonzalez Royds set a career high with 24. Defensively, Aiden Hooper had 10 digs, followed by Kai Taylor with nine and Dunn with eight.
The Bold will finish the 2025-26 season with two home matches at the Mattamy Athletic Centre against the RMC Paladins on Friday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7. TMU students can attend for free with their OneCards.
