Rams overcome slow start to earn fourth straight win

WATERLOO, Ont. - On the second leg of their home-and-home, the Ryerson Rams put up five goals in the last 40 minutes on Saturday to beat the Warriors 5-1.

Adam Craievich (Sarnia, Ont.) netted the game-winner with his first career OUA goal. Devon Paliani's (LaSalle, Ont.) goal extended his point streak to four games while Gregory DiTomaso (Etobicoke, Ont.) opened the scoring. Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) also picked up a pair of goals for his fourth goal in two games as well as grabbing an assist tonight.

A roughing call sent Mathew Santos (Toronto) to the box just over five minutes into the first. Near the end of the Warriors' man-advantage, Markson Bechtold managed to get one by Garrett Forrest (Ashburn, Va.). Santos would make up for his penalty with two assists later on. However, Waterloo held on to the momentum from their opening goal, outshooting the Rams for the rest of the first period.

The Rams were able to kill off another Waterloo power play after Matt Nosella (Etobicoke, Ont.) went off for tripping. After the successful kill, Ryerson started to find their legs. Zachary Shankar (Prescott, Ont.) made a huge open ice hit and the rest of the squad forced Waterloo's Trevor Martin to stay sharp in net. However, the opening frame ended with the Warriors up one and outshooting the Rams 10-4.

Just two minutes into the second, DiTomaso knotted things up via a low wrister through traffic from the point. Marcus Hinds (Toronto) earned his first of two assists after a strong forecheck.

Six minutes later, Craievich scored his first career OUA goal in style. The forward sped into the Waterloo zone and fired a dart of a shot over Martin into the top corner, putting the Rams ahead 2-1. The Rams also caught up in shots, leading 17-15 at the end of the second.

Spurred by their playoff desperation, Waterloo poured on offensive pressure early in the third. On a counter attack, a rush led by Mistele seemingly led to an insurance goal, but it was called off due to goaltender interference.

After killing off another Waterloo power play, Paliani tapped in a goal from a scrum in the slot. Just 50 seconds later, Mistele was redeemed with a blast of a one-timer goal off a feed from Shankar to make it 4-1. The captain also sealed the deal with an empty-netter with about thirty seconds to go.

The Rams head back to home ice on Thursday, January 30 for their Senior Night matchup against the Laurier Golden Hawks with puck drop at 7:15 p.m.
