Back-to-back games in Kingston loom for Rams

TORONTO - The Ryerson men's volleyball team will be back on the road this weekend, headed to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday and the Royal Military College on Saturday.

The Rams are coming off another weekend on the road, which saw them drop a tough match against OUA leaders McMaster, then saw them cruise by the Brock Badgers in straight sets.

This past weekend showed glimpses of promise for the remainder of the season, including a breakout weekend from first year Alex King (Ottawa, Ont.) who appeared in his first OUA matches and showed plenty of potential.

Ryerson's first opponent of the weekend will be against the 8-3 Gaels, who currently sit two points above the 7-5 Rams in the OUA east standings with a game in hand. The No. 7 nationally ranked Gaels, who are on a six-game winning streak, also lead the OUA in kills-per-set and assists-per-set. Many of those statistics are thanks to outside hitter Adam Bolkjovac, who sits second in the OUA in kills, only behind Ryerson's Xander Ketrzynski (Toronto).

The second part of the Gaels' one-two punch is setter Zane Grossinger, who leads the OUA in assists and ranks second in assists-per-set.

The Rams will certainly be wary of those two weapons if they want to defeat the OUA's hottest team and climb the OUA east division ahead of the playoffs.

Ryerson's most likely weapon will be Ketrzynski, who will make for must-watch volleyball as the top two offensive players in the OUA go toe-to-toe for the first time this season.

Also, watch for Rams outside hitter Taryq Sani (Scarborough, Ont.), whose experience will be key in an important game like this, and who looked very confident against the Badgers. Sani looked in rhythm and was serving very well.

The Rams' second opponent of the weekend will be RMC, who currently sit second-last in the OUA with a 1-10 record. The Rams have won 34 straight matches against RMC, and will most likely utilize the matchup to test certain rotations/lineups, as well as rest some of their starters after the Queen's game taking place the night before.

Friday's matchup against the Gaels will be at 8 p.m on OUA.tv as well as Saturday's match against RMC.
