Mistele, Rams take back and forth battle over Guelph

GUELPH, Ont - In a game that saw eleven goals scored in the first 40 minutes, the Ryerson Rams snatched a 6-5 win from the Guelph Gryphons on the road on Thursday night.

Captain Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont.) was involved with every Ryerson goal tonight, securing a goal and five assists for six points. His effort proved to be his best single-game point total to date.

Mathew Santos (Toronto) also had himself a night, opening the scoring and eventually sniping the game-winning sixth goal on the power play. Cavin Leth (Taber, Alta.) picked up a pair of tallies, making it four goals in three games for the winger.

Hayden McCool (Whitby, Ont.) also added one while the Rams outshot Guelph 39-28. Troy Timpano (Pickering, Ont.) came in relief and stopped 20 for the win.

Although the Rams power play unit went 1-for-7, Santos' game-winner made the Gryphons pay for their penalty trouble. Guelph's Marc Stevens was assessed a game-misconduct and the Gryphons finished with 28 penalty minutes. The Rams held the Gryphons' special teams scoreless all night.

OUA leading scorer and Guelph forward Todd Winder scored a hat-trick and two other skaters chipped in for the Gryphons. However, Ryerson's trio of goals in both the first and second period were enough to give the Rams the 6-5 advantage.

Ryerson is back in action on Saturday against the Brock Badgers in yet another divisional test. Puck drop is at 7:15 p.m. on Mattamy Home Ice, and Ryerson students are free with their OneCard.
