TORONTO - After a long three periods of penalties and missed chances, the Rams were able to hold off the RMC Paladins 3-1 on Saturday night.Â
Matt Mistele (Whitby, Ont) slotted the game winner in the third off a feed from Mathew Santos (Toronto). David Miller (Burlington, Ont) also continued his hot streak, sniping home his fifth of the season. Â
The final whistle blew after 41 total penalty minutes were tallied. Both squads went 0-for-5 on the powerplay.Â
Building on their outpouring of shots from last night, Ryerson pelted 14 pucks on goal against RMC's Joey May in the first. The Rams' shots hit everything but the twine, and the frame ended scoreless.Â
Tensions were high late in the period as the Rams dominated. Following the first, RMC was forced to play a skater short after Cameron Lamport was given a game misconduct for cross-checking.Â
Things began to even up in the second as RMC got some more shots in on Garrett Forrest (Ashburn, Va). Just over halfway into the period, Seamus Maguire got RMC on the board with a shot from the point.Â
David Miller knotted things up after circling the net and firing a wrist-shot past May. Ryerson continued to outshoot the Paladins 21-15 as the period concluded 1-1.
In the third, a sprawling Matt Mistele redirected a backhand feed from Mathew Santos and found the five-hole for his fourth of the season. A bouncing puck in the dying seconds almost changed the game for RMC, but Santos' empty-netter cemented the 3-1 win with a second left on the clock.Â
"That's four consecutive games where we've allowed two goals or less and that's a big objective for our group here" said Head Coach Johnny Duco post-game. Despite only four goals on an overwhelming 68 shots these past two games, Duco focused on his team's defense. "For us it's focus(ed) on the process and really sticking to our defensive details."
The Rams are back in action on the road in North Bay on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the Nipissing Lakers.
