TORONTO - The Ryerson men's volleyball team will be playing back to back games this weekend, facing off against the Varsity Blues on Friday night, then coming home to play the Trent Excalibur on Saturday night.
The Rams have already gone through a third of their season, and are currently 4-2 going into this weekend. The only team ahead of the Rams in the OUA East standings is Friday night's opponents, the Blues.
The Rams dropped their home opener game to the Varsity Blues earlier this season and will be looking for revenge against their crosstown rivals. With the addition of Rams outside hitter
Taryq Sani (Scarborough, Ont.) who was out injured in their last matchup, the Rams will have another weapon in their arsenal that they did not have last time around. A win on Friday over the Blues would put them tied for first in the OUA East, and also put them on a three-game winning streak.
The Rams are the OUA leaders in blocks and will look to keep that defence going in front of Blues Evan Falardeau, who leads the team with 65 kills this season. Look for
Navreet Suhan (Mississauga, Ont.) to be a force on the blocks, tallying a team-high of 17 so far this campaign.
Saturday's match will be against the Trent Excalibur, who are still looking for their first win of the season. Trent has never beaten Ryerson in program history and will be looking to make history on Saturday. After what is probably going to be an intense game against the Varsity Blues the night before, the Rams will most likely rely on some second-unit players to contribute significantly against the Excalibur.
Both games will be played at 8 p.m, with Friday's match at the Goldring Centre and Saturday's on Coca-Cola Court. Both matches will also be available on OUA.tv.
