TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are in for a challenge this week as they take on OUA West division competitors Guelph and Brock.
Ryerson's five-game winning streak came to an end last Saturday against Lakehead. In their 3-2 loss, the Rams gave up more than two goals for the first time in eight games. The match also marked just their third regulation loss all season. Ironically, their first two regulation defeats came at the hands of their next opponents, the Guelph Gryphons.
The Rams are all too familiar with the Gryphons' puck luck against them. In their two meetings thus far, they have been outscored 11-5. Guelph was also responsible for eliminating the Rams and cutting their amazing 2018-19 campaign short in the second round of the playoffs last year.
"There's no easy games in this league," said head coach
Johnny Duco after their "disappointing" Saturday night against Lakehead.
"When we look around this league it seems like every game, every night there are one-goal games (or) going into overtime and they're real hard-fought. We hope always that we can have a few games like we did last weekend where we run away with it and can ease to a win, but that's just not the reality of this league."
Of Ryerson's thirteen games this season, seven have been decided by a lone goal.
"If you get up and you play well, you can beat anyone," added Duco.
Coming off two skillful goals in as many nights,
Cavin Leth (Taber, Alta.) earned himself a Star of the Week honour. "We're kind of a team that scores in bunches so when they come it helps. It doesn't really matter if we put up six or three, as long as we get those two points," said Leth. The forward now has four goals and six assists for ten points in all thirteen games so far.
At third in the OUA West, the Rams will need to be sharp as Guelph and Brock sit directly below them. The Gryphons have won their last two, but sport a 5-5 record in their last ten. The Badgers have seen more recent success at 7-3 recently, but dropped their last game.
Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Guelph on Thursday and 7:15 p.m. back on Mattamy Home Ice on Saturday against Brock. All Ryerson students are free to attend with their OneCard.
