OTTAWA — The No. 2 Ryerson Rams found themselves struggling in the most important moments of the game against the No. 6 Ottawa Gee-Gees, surrendering a ten-point lead and eventually falling 60-57 on Friday night in Ottawa.  

Ryerson's Cara Tiemems (Newmarket, Ont.) led the Rams with 13 points in 36 minutes on the court, going 4-7 from beyond the arc in the loss.

The Rams would kick off the match with a quick six-point run just two minutes into the game, eventually taking a 9-4 lead midway through the first quarter. Ottawa's offensive skills kicked in around this time as the Gee-Gees came back and tied the game at 11.  The teams would remain deadlocked at 16 points after the first quarter.

The Rams held a one-point lead throughout much of the second quarter, but Bronwyn Williams' (Toronto, Ont.) and-one play would ignite a momentum swing for Ryerson with four minutes left before half.

The Rams would outscore the Gee-Gees 19-14 in the second quarter, heading into the second half with a 35-30 lead over the home team. Ottawa would go 1-7 from three in the first half of the game while Ryerson's Tiemens went 3-3 in her attempts from beyond the arc.

The tides began to turn for Ottawa midway through the third quarter. The Rams would reach a 10-point lead over the Gee-Gees three minutes into the third, but Ottawa's scoring momentum kicked off a comeback that would continue until the final buzzer sounded.

Ryerson would score only seven points in the fourth quarter, falling victim to Ottawa's Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu (Gatineau, Que.) and the rest of the Gee-Gees powerful defenders. Lefbvre-Okanwu would drop 11 points in the second half, leading the charge for Ottawa through their fourth-quarter comeback.  

The Rams were unable to match Ottawa's late game efforts, eventually falling 60-57 on the road against the sixth-ranked team in the country.

The Rams will go on to face the No. 8 Carleton Ravens tomorrow night at the Ravens' Nest in Ottawa. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
