Rams' winning streak snapped by red-hot Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams simply couldn't find a way to reset in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) loss to the Queen's Gaels Saturday night in Kingston, as the team ultimately bypassed an opportunity to clinch the first seed in their conference with zero points gained in their matchup against the Gaels.

Ryerson would begin to struggle in the first set after three straight service errors. The Gaels capitalized on Ryerson's serving troubles, gaining and maintaining momentum through the remainder of the match.

Ryerson would go on to tally a total of 20 errors on the game.  With 29 kills on 79 total attempts, the Rams would finish the matchup with a mere .114 hitting percentage.

Several timeouts by head coach Adam Simac wouldn't help the situation, either. The Rams weren't in system and couldn't manage to get past Queen's strong defence.

Senior setter Adam Anagnostopoulos (Waterloo, Ont.) had 25 assists on the matchup, while hitter Simon Davis-Power (Conception Bay South, Nfld.) led the Rams with eight kills.   Navreet Suhan (Mississauga, Ont.) and Lucas Coleman (Brooklin, Ont.) each had six kills in three sets.  Suhan was one of only three hitters, and the only one to play in three sets, who had no errors in the matchup.

On a night that commemorated head coach Brenda Willis' final regular season with her team, the Gaels took advantage of a fired up home crowd and ultimately bested the Rams in three straight sets. Ryerson's three-game winning streak came to a close after the loss to Queen's.

Ryerson will take to the floor at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Friday, February 23rd to take on the RMC Paladins in their final home game of the season.
