CARP, Ont. - The Ryerson fastpitch team placed 8th place in league standings and were one of the wildcard teams for the 2018 OIWFA Championships held in the Ottawa area during the past weekend.
In the first game, the team lost 7-0 to the number one team and defending champions - Western University. In their second game in a double knockout format, the team upset the Queen's Gaels, the first place team in the East Division, in a tight pitching battle by the score of 3-1. Zoe Delorme pitched the whole game, striking out seven while the offence was lead by Olivia Pepe with the key hits of the game.
Advancing in the next round, the team beat the Guelph Gryphons by a score of 3-1 to advance to the medal round. Zoe again pitched seven innings, striking out six batters for her second win of the day. Jennifer Nobile had the key hit of the game, a double and driving in the winning run.
Playing for a medal, the team played the Brock Badgers in an exciting game, losing 8-7 in an international tie breaker in the eighth inning. A heartbreaking loss but a victory for the fastpitch program as the Rams gained the respectability from other teams, for a team that could play with the best, in only our third year in the league.
The team thanks senior players Emily Rickson and Jennifer Nobile for their outstanding contribution to the Ryerson University fastpitch program.
