TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams fastpitch team was looking to extend their four-game winning streak on Tuesday night against the Toronto Varsity Blues in doubleheader action at Thomson Park in Scarborough.
Game 1:The Ryerson Rams collected seven hits, but the Ryerson fell 12-5 to Toronto in game one.
U of Toronto took an early lead with a run in the first and three more runs in the bottom of the second.
Two runs in the top of the third helped the Ryerson Rams close their deficit to 4-2. A steal of home by
Taylar Oats and a single by
Azra Jessa set off the Rams rally.
U of T scored four runs of their own in the third and fourth to put the game out of reach.
Jennifer Nobile was hot from the plate for Ryerson. Nobile went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. She singled in the fourth inning.
Game 2:Taylar Oats did all she could to give the Ryerson Rams a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past U of Toronto, as the Ryerson Rams lost 7-4 in seven innings in the second game of a doubleheader.
Oats had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She singled in the second inning and doubled in the first and seventh innings.
Early in the game saw U of Toronto take an early lead, 3-0.
The Ryerson Rams survived U of Toronto's surge and put up two runs of their own in the first. The Ryerson Rams scored on an RBI double by
Emily Rickson and an RBI single by
Hayley Graham.
In the third, the Ryerson Rams scored on a steal of home by
Carly Forrester, to tie the game. However, U of Toronto piled on four more runs in the in the final three innings to pull away.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the seventh, the Ryerson Rams faced just a 7-4 deficit. An RBI single by
Kaylyn Shaughnessy set off the Ryerson rally. With the tying run at the plate, U of Toronto managed to get the final out to end the rally and the game.
Ryerson returns to action this Saturday, September 24 when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo.
