Bold Fall to Waterloo

WATERLOO, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team fell 3-0 against the Waterloo Warriors to kick off their road trip.

The 10th-ranked Bold started fast in the first period, quickly gaining possession on the opening face-off, but the Warriors matched the pace early, making it a back-and-forth game.

Midway through the frame, TMU pulled ahead, besting Waterloo's defenders and establishing a presence in their offensive zone. Daniil Grigorev and Will Portokalis both had solid attempts, but the Bold were unable to convert. The scoreless period ended with the Bold outshooting the Warriors 16-5.

Early in the second, TMU regained possession and remained dominant in shots. After a brief scrap, the Bold earned their first power play. Despite the two-man advantage, TMU was unable to capitalize.

The Bold applied pressure throughout the period, staying aggressive in the offensive zone as they outshot the Warriors 30-9.

After regaining full strength, Waterloo struck, scoring the first goal of the game with five minutes left in the frame.

As the period began to wind down, the Bold were called for hooking, giving the Warriors their first power play opportunity. The Warriors capitalized in the final minute of their man advantage, putting the Bold down by two.

Seconds before the period ended, TMU earned their second power play.

As the third began, the Bold were unable to convert with the man advantage. Minutes later, the Bold were called for slashing, giving the Warriors another power play opportunity.

Following a successful penalty kill, the Bold found themselves applying pressure in Waterloo's zone once again. Despite their attempts, they were unable to capitalize.

Three minutes before the final buzzer, the Warriors notched another goal.

The Bold battled to regain momentum, but ultimately were unable to close the gap, falling 3-0 to the Warriors.

Up next, the Bold face the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Jan. 31. Puck drop will be at 3 p.m., and fans can watch the game on OUA.tv.
