Campoli, Rollocks Power TMU to Road Win Over RMC

Kingston, Ont. — The No. 3-ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team made a short trip along the shores of Lake Ontario to Kingston, Ont., where they secured a 2-0 win over the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins.

After placing 3rd overall in the U SPORTS national ranking this week, the Bold entered the match with expectations to meet. In their home opener against the Queen's Gaels on Thursday, they managed to secure a draw and walk away with one point. Today, they were searching for three against the Paladins.

In the first half, the Bold dominated possession, taking control of the game. TMU produced seven shots, while limiting RMC to just two, keeping the ball confined to the Paladins' end.

The Bold consistently found themselves in scoring position, with eight corner kicks in the first half alone. TMU's Brandon Verburg came close on two occasions, along with several other teammates, but the wind wasn't blowing in their favour, sending shots just wide of the net.

Killing the deadlock in the final minutes of the first, TMU's Michael Campoli scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Noah Pickering, claiming the lead 1-0 at half.

TMU continued to hold RMC in the second. Bold midfielder Benayon-Abraham brought his offensive energy, producing two shots on goal, but couldn't capitalize. In the 62nd minute, Cyrus Rollocks scored to give the Bold a more comfortable 2-0 lead.

TMU demonstrated composure in the final minutes, managing the clock and holding strong to protect their lead. Gray Yates had a couple of late chances, just missing the net but keeping the Paladins on edge until the end of the game.

The Bold will now have a short hiatus to prepare for their weekend up North. They match up against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, Sept. 13th at Laurentian Field in Sudbury, Ont. Kick-off is set for 2:15 p.m. and can be viewed on OUA.tv.
