WATERLOO, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team fell 3-0 on the road Friday night, as the No. 10 ranked Waterloo Warriors capitalized on special teams and timely scoring at the Columbia Icefield Arena.
The Warriors struck twice in the opening period and added one more in the second, while TMU was unable to solve Waterloo goaltender Kara Mark, who turned aside all 16 shots she faced.
Waterloo opened the scoring on the power play at 15:16 of the first, with Lyndsy Acheson burying a feed from Emma Thornton. Just over a minute later, the Warriors doubled their lead when Tatum James finished off a play set up by Nikki McDonald and Gracey Smith to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes.
The Bold pushed to generate momentum in the second period, earning a power-play opportunity midway through the frame, but Waterloo extended the lead shortly after the advantage expired. Sarah Hirst found the back of the net at 11:30, again assisted by Smith, putting TMU in a three-goal hole.
Despite creating chances in the third and earning four total power plays on the night, TMU couldn't break through offensively. Goaltender
Sydney Pyburn kept the Bold within reach with a strong performance, stopping 30 shots in the loss.
The Bold will return to Toronto for a matchup with the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, Nov. 29. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, and students can attend for free with their OneCards.
