WINDSOR, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's volleyball team showed stretches of strong play on Friday night but ultimately fell 3-0 (22-25, 17-25, 18-25) to the nationally ranked No. 4 Windsor Lancers at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
TMU opened the match with their most competitive frame of the night, exchanging 14 ties and six lead changes with the unbeaten Lancers. The two squads were tied at 18-18 before a late Windsor push helped them edge the Bold 25-22 in a tightly contested first set.
First-year outside hitter
William Gimbert turned in an efficient offensive performance, leading TMU with nine kills on an impressive .667 hitting percentage, while adding five digs and a team-high 9.5 points. Veteran outside hitter
Riley Donovan added eight kills and 10 digs for a steady two-way effort, and middle blocker
Day Westell chipped in four kills and a block. Setter
Declan Dunn steered the TMU offence with 21 assists and six digs.
Despite strong defensive stretches — including 27 team digs — the Bold struggled to contain Windsor's balanced attack, which hit .278 on the night. TMU battled to stay within striking distance in the third set, but a late Lancers surge closed out the match.
The Bold will return to the Toldo Lancer Centre on Saturday night for a rematch with the Lancers. First serve flies after 2:30 p.m. and can be viewed on OUA.tv.
