Bold Secure Redemption With Thrilling 58-56 Victory Over Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. — The No. 9-ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team edged out the Queen's Gaels in a thrilling 58-56 victory on Friday night. This was the first meeting between the teams this season, with the Bold seeking redemption after last season's OUA semifinal loss to the Gaels.

TMU's Jayme Foreman's 21-point performance fueled TMU's success, leading the Bold to secure the victory.

The key matchup started with a fiery energy, emulating a playoff game. In the first quarter, both teams focused primarily on attacking the rim.

TMU and Queens took turns with the lead, both fighting to take control in the first quarter. The Bold struggled with turnovers but did a good job at recovering on defence to shut Queen's down.

With offensive efforts from Foreman and Callie Wright, the Bold were able to sneak by with the lead after the first quarter, 20-14.

The fierce push and pull of the score continued in the second quarter. Hailey Franco-DeRyck displayed strong play on both ends of the court, finishing the game with 12 rebounds, eight points and four blocks.

Zoe Idahosa made an impact in the second quarter, scoring both from long range and close to the basket, accumulating five points.

Despite the Bold's best efforts, Queen's ramped up their offence and tightened their defence, outscoring the Bold by one point in the second.

TMU managed to keep their lead at the end of the first half, 36-31.

Beginning the second half, the Bold aimed to widen their lead and regain their rhythm. TMU's Kaillie Hall had several strong drives to the basket, getting in the paint and drawing fouls to get to the free-throw line.

Foreman continued to dominate with her shooting, adding points to extend the Bold's lead. TMU closed the third quarter ahead by 10 points, 50-40.

The fourth quarter was an intense battle, the court was filled with anticipation. Queen's began the quarter going on an 11 point run to steal the lead from the Bold. The lead shifted a total of six times in the quarter, making it a nail biting spectacle.

With the game tied and 1:42 remaining on the clock, the Bold locked in their focus, looking to redeem their semifinal loss last season.

Crucial plays from the Bold such as Wright's pass to Hall for an open layup and Jessica Keripe's beautiful layup off an in-bound pushed the Bold to ultimately take the win, 58-56.

The Bold will continue their weekend on the road, making their way to Oshawa, Ont. to play against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. Catch all the action LIVE on OUA.tv.
