Hall's Season High Powers Bold to 83-42 Win Over Ridgebacks

OSHAWA, Ont. — The No. 9-ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team recorded a dominant 83-42 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday night.

TMU's Kaillie Hall produced a season-high 24 points, propelling the Bold to their win.

After an intense victory over Queen's on Friday, the Bold were looking to keep their momentum going against the Ridgebacks. TMU's Haley Fedick got the Bold started early, scoring five points in the first half.

Following an early back-and-forth with Ontario Tech, the Bold pulled away from the Ridgebacks. Jayme Foreman was consistent from the three, netting a buzzer-beater to end the first, 25-10.

Finishing the first up by 15, the Bold opened the floor to some of the younger players on the team. First-year Magdalena Vukojev netted a deep three, putting her name on the score sheet.

Second-year Hannah Mills used her physicality to grab rebounds and put up shots, finishing with six points.

Asserting herself as a veteran, Hall drove toward the rim, drawing fouls and finishing layups. She went 11-13 from the free-throw line.

The Bold secured a comfortable lead, ending the first half up by 20, 47-27.

In the second half, the Bold continued to control the game. Hailey Franco-DeRyck played an all-around game, recording a double-double. She finished with 13 rebounds,12 points, three steals and two blocks.

Being patient with their passes and strengthening their defensive connection, TMU closed the third up by 30, 65-35.

In the fourth quarter, the younger players on TMU made their mark. Gaining confidence from her first three-pointer, Vukojev found her rhythm, adding more points to finish with eight.

First-year Aislin McBurney also impressed, showing her speed on fast breaks and sinking a buzzer-beater drive towards the rim. She ended the game with five points.

The Bold finished with 48 team rebounds, doubling Ontario Tech's. They secured their decisive victory at the end of the fourth, 83-42.

The Bold will make their way back home to host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues for the Metro Hoops Classic on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Come and support the Bold as they face off against their cross-city rivals. TMU students get in free with their OneCard.
