TORONTO –
The No. 7 ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team defeated the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (UofT) in a tight match for redemption on Sunday, 2-1.
The Bold were coming off a loss on Friday against UofT and were hoping to respond with a better result on their home turf.
Chris Campoli started the Bold off with an early goal in the seventh minute for his fourth goal of the season. He recorded his fifth goal of the year later in the match when he rushed the net to claim the eventual game-winner in the 36th minute.
"We were able to manage it out and then get the results, which was huge," said goalkeeper
Dante Ferraro.
The Varsity Blues came back fighting in the second half and the Bold held their defense strong the entire second half.
New League1 player
Jevontae Layne, who was added to the roster late in the season, made his mark.
"This was my first university game and I really enjoyed it," said Layne.
"He's a runner, he's a worker, he's a fighter," added head coach Fil Prostran. "I thought he played excellent today, and was a really good addition.
The Bold fought hard against the Blues and dealt with two goals which were called back by the referees, but that didn't stop them from securing the victory.
"I thought we were, for the most part, on the front foot and did the right things and pressed and had a really good fighting spirit today," said Prostran.
The Bold will head on the road for their next match against Trent University on Friday, September 13th at 8:15 p.m. Watch the contest on
