PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The No. 8 ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team took care of business on Friday night, beating the Trent University Excalibur, 2-0. The victory moves the Bold to 3-1-0, good for second place in the OUA East as the season's third weekend gets underway.
After a slow start to the contest for both sides, the Bold jumped ahead late in the first half.
Chris Campoli finished off a centering pass from
Jevontae Layne with a clean strike into the bottom left corner of the goal. It was Campoli's OUA-leading sixth goal of the season, and the graduate student's 19th overall since joining the Bold.
The Bold, who started second-year
Eduard Ambrus in goal, managed to keep things clear for their Romanian keeper. Ambrus, making his first start of the season, was solid when called upon. On the rare occasion the Excalibur were able to generate a chance, Ambrus was in perfect position to limit whatever Trent follow-up opportunities may have existed.
In the 83rd minute, first-year
Sufyan Fraj recorded his first career OUA goal, cleaning up his own rebound to give the Bold a much-needed insurance marker. It was a symbolic end for the Bold who relied on several first and second-year players in the victory, such as Fraj,
Juchan Kim and
Sam Rankin.
The Bold are back in action on Sunday afternoon, taking on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 3:15 p.m. in Oshawa, Ont. Watch the contest on
