TORONTO – The No. 7 ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team visited Varsity Stadium on Friday night to face their rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. A back-and-forth affair, it was the Varsity Blues who ended up securing a 3-2 victory in the first of two matches between the two sides this weekend.
The Bold managed to capitalize on loose plays and had some quality scoring chances, especially for defender
Luca Porfiris.
The Bold players started the match aggressively, hoping to keep a strong line of defense, but a shot 23 minutes in from the Blues put Toronto in front early in the game.
Goalkeeper
Dante Ferraro kept the Bold alive with a total of seven saves and kept it a tight game going into halftime.
Justin Santos netted the game's tying goal in the 45th minute for his second goal of the season.
The Bold were hungry at the start of the second half, and graduate student
Akeim Villous buried a header in the 55th minute to give the Bold the lead.
The Blues came back in the 79th minute to tie the game at 2-2 and they recorded their third goal in the 83rd minute.
With five minutes of extra time, the Bold were down to the wire but came up just short.
The Bold hope to come back stronger this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Downsview Park when they take on the Varsity Blues again. Admission will be free for all TMU home soccer matches this season and every home match will also be broadcast live on
