Box Score OTTAWA — The No. 7 Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team improved to 3-2-1 on Sunday afternoon, playing the No. 1-ranked Carleton Ravens to a 1-1 draw in Ottawa. Carleton entered the contest atop the OUA East with a record of 6-0-1. With the draw, the Bold remain in third place in the OUA East table, with a game in hand over both the Ravens and the University of Toronto.
The top 10 match-up was a listless affair early. Neither side was able to generate any serious threats on goal through the opening 45 minutes. The Bold, who were without leading scorer
Chris Campoli, saw their best chances in the match coming off set pieces.
The Ravens broke the scoreless deadlock in the 56th minute, forcing the Bold to push forward after their defensive start to the match. The Bold found more chances, primarily off the foot of captain
Luca Di Marco and third-year forward Javontae Layne.
Off a drop-ball, an incredible pass was launched by
Noah Pickering, which was picked up by Layne, who deposited the ball into the Carleton goal. Layne, a transfer from Sheridan College, has put together a solid season in his first year with the Bold. The equalizer was his second in as many games, serving as an important complimentary piece to the Bold attack. After leveling the score, the Bold were content to secure the single point, playing stout defense for the remainder of the contest.
The Bold will face the Ravens in a rematch next Saturday, at home at Downsview Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Admission to all home contests this season is free, and home games will be streamed live on OUA.tv.
