Women's Soccer Dealt First Loss of 2024

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the Queen's University Gaels on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bold move to 1-1-0 after their opening weekend of play.

The Bold faced an early storm from the Gaels. The day after earning a clean sheet, Elisa Paolucci was once again spectacular during the match's opening stages. The Bold defence would eventually break however, conceding in the 31st minute.

The Bold would earn a prime opportunity to equalize  right before the halftime whistle after earning a penalty kick from a set piece.Despite being unable to convert, the 1-0 scoreline in the opening half was an improvement over last year's contest, where the Gaels led the Bold 3-0 after the first half.

"Honestly we just go into every game to 'push 90'," said Vanessa Pianta, a standout in the Bold loss. "This year pushing, and pulling out a result with fewer goals (against) is a testament to the team that we have this year."

A free kick in the 56th minute from just outside the box would represent the Bold's next best chance, but they remained unable to find the back of the Queen's goal. The Bold's comeback hopes would take another blow just minutes later when a brilliant strike by the Gaels drifted over the Bold defence into the TMU net. The Gaels would add a final goal off a misplayed ball in the TMU box to cement the 3-0 scoreline.

The squad is back in action next weekend, taking on the University of Toronto at Varsity Stadium. Watch the contest on OUA.tv. Admission will be free for all TMU home soccer matches this season and every home match will also be broadcast live on OUA.tv.
