OTTAWA - The TMU Bold women's basketball team was stymied by an Ottawa Gee-Gees defence on Friday night in the nation's capital, with the visitors manufacturing just 43 points in a 71-43 loss.
The Gee-Gees led from start to finish in this one, leading 16-8 after the opening quarter. TMU's
Kaillie Hall had all eight points for the Bold in the opening quarter, a sign of the offensive struggles for the team as whole.
Ottawa opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run and took all the momentum. Their defence continued to hold the Bold down and transitioned well to easy baskets at the other end. By halftime, the Gee-Gees had opened an 18-point advantage at 37-19.
The Bold had their best offensive quarter in the third, netting 17 points, but they couldn't narrow the gap on the scoreboard and the deficit remained at 20 heading into the final frame.
In the fourth, the Bold committed consecutive turnovers to start the quarter and the Gee-Gees went on a 7-0 run to all but seal the victory.
Hall finished with a team-high 15 points while the conference's second-leading rebounder
Hailey Franco-DeRyck pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Bold now look ahead to their matchup against the No. 1 ranked Carleton Ravens on Saturday night.
