Bold fall to top ranked Ravens

OTTAWA - The TMU Bold women's basketball team fell to the No. 1 ranked Carleton Ravens 92-61 on the road Saturday night. It was the Bold's sixth loss in ten games since the winter break. The loss moves the Bold record to 14-6, good for second in the OUA central as the season enters its final stretch.

Both teams struggled to shoot the ball in the early stages of the first. The Bold, who entered 14-5 on the season, struggled with turnovers on early offensive possessions. The Ravens, boasting the OUA's top offence at 80.4 points per game, would eventually find their rhythm to build a 10-0 lead.

Corrynn Parker would deliver the Bold's first points at 6:04 in the opening quarter. It did little to cut into the Ravens' lead however, as Carleton would close the first quarter with a 32-10 advantage on the scoreboard.

The second quarter continued the onslaught. The Bold, desperate to climb back into the contest, began full-court pressing the Ravens. The Carleton passing was strong however, quickly dissecting the Bold defence allowing them to extend their lead in the quarter.

The Bold began to warm up offensively at the end of the first and throughout the second. Despite being unable to hit shots from the field, the Bold did a good job of driving the hoop to generate foul calls. Jayme Foreman would lead the charge, pacing the Bold with eight points in the first half.

Despite the best efforts of Foreman and Kaillie Hall, who had six points of her own in the first two quarters, the Ravens would finish the half up 64-20.

To begin the second half of action, the Bold looked motivated to cut into their deficit. Foreman continued to excel, scoring five points in the opening two minutes. Catrina Garvey would get into the groove, hitting a three that gave the Bold some momentum.

The Bold defence also improved coming out of the break. They limited the ability of Carleton guards to drive to the paint, keeping them from distributing the ball to outside shooters. As a result the Bold would outscore the Ravens 14-12 in the quarter.

With the score 76-34 entering the fourth quarter, and the game decided, the Bold looked to build momentum for next week as well as playoffs. The quarter would be played at a slower pace as teams traded fouls, however Jayme Foreman continued to dominate offensively. She would finish with 29 points, accounting for an astonishing 48% of the Bold's total points. Alex Pino would also contribute a pair of three pointers in the fourth to help make the scoreline more respectable. Ultimately the Bold would outscore the Ravens 27-16 in the final frame.

The Bold are back in action against York in a Valentine's Day matchup on Wednesday on home court before finishing their regular season against the Lions on February 17.
