GUELPH, Ont. - The TMU Bold curling teams competed at the OUA championship this past weekend but fell short of their medal hopes.
The women's rink reached the quarter-final where they were ousted in an extra end by the eventual champion Laurentian Voyageurs. The Bold had gone through pool play with a 4-0 record, including a win over the Voyageurs in the opening draw of the championship, but couldn't find their way into the semifinal.
The Bold earned victories in pool play over Laurentian, a strong 10-2 win over Brock, a tight 6-4 win over Guelph, and a quick 7-1 win over Ontario Tech in just four ends of play. Despite the 4-0 record, the Bold earned just the No. 5 seed in the quarter-final stage, as Waterloo also finished 4-0 in the pool and had a better draw to the button score to take the top seed.
On the men's side, the team dropped their opening two games to Waterloo and Guelph, making their path to the playoffs a challenge. The team rebounded on Saturday morning with a 6-2 win over Windsor but then, needing a win and some help, dropped their final draw against York to finish with a 1-3 record and eliminated from medal contention.
